Magic Tricks for Young Children

Magic is an art that consists in making the impossible believable. Fascinate adults and children. From age 4, children begin to suspect that behind the magic there may be a trick. Before that age, no. Magic is magic, without more. So that you can train from home, we explain how to do some simple magic tricks to understand for young children. Between trick and trick, do not forget to say any of the magic words, like Abracadabra!

Up to 2-3 years old, children do not differentiate reality from fantasy. Lighting a light or mixing two colors and making another one (red + yellow = orange) is just as magical. In contrast, after 4 years, an important maturational development occurs.

Is It Easy To Do Magic For Children?

Children in general are a difficult audience. Some of the best wizards in the world and history (not to mention the great and internationally renowned cartomango and magician Juan Tamariz) often refuse to act if there are children in the room.

Others, on the other hand, like Nicholas J. Johnson, another of the international figures of magic, began his career linked to children.  


The fact of doing magic with children trains and trains the magicians. It allows foreseeing the unpredictable , driving the performance or trick towards where the magician wants and exploiting the capacity of seduction to capture his attention.

Previous Tips For Doing Magic With Children 

At these ages, they must be short, direct games or tricks , without needing to remember what happened a few minutes ago because their attention span is still limited, encouraging voluntary participation and using everyday objects that they know (fabrics, rope, paper , balls ...).

Apart from creating a special atmosphere (learn some magic words, use a costume, magical materials, mysterious background music ..), it also helps to give the performance a comical and simple touch to adapt to their age.

Finally, at these ages a classic resource of the magician works very well : the magician fallón, that needs of the empathy and of the aid of the children to do magic. This engages children by making them feel more protagonists. We start!
